“Error of Flower Play” (2020)

I have overlaid the head of a hare and the flower of a camellia onto myself, realizing them in metal. As I hammer metal plates into three-dimensional form, I have held contradictory feelings of life and death within that sensation.

For a long time, from memories of drawing close to my own death, I have discovered a sense of “life” standing at its opposite pole. In the black space on the left side of this work, fallen camellias are scattered, representing a world of death images. As this process is repeated, an object resembling an aluminum scroll, onto which my resentments are written in lacquer, reaches the red space on the right, creating an image where new life is born from that world of death.
