“Children Named Error” (2026)
“Children Named Error” is a body of work created for my 2026 solo exhibition, continuing the thematic exploration from my 2025 show. I seek self-understanding through the very act of creating works.
The Transformation of Trauma and Tankin(forging)：
When hammering metal plates, I call forth memories of pain—memories that feel deeply traumatic. Yet, as the flat metal gradually takes on three-dimensional form through repeated strikes, it evokes the sensation of another living being coming into existence. Alongside this, I have long felt that my own traumatic memories also transform into something like a separate living entity. In this body of work, I transfer a photograph superimposing my face and that of my identical twin sister onto metal plates, shaping them through the technique of tankin (forging). My sister and I appear to carry similar past pain. As I hammer the metal plates, I experience a compelling sense of becoming someone other than myself or my sister.
Masks and Reading performance：
Furthermore, I created works using these metal plates as masks.
These ultimately reference Noh, a traditional Japanese performing art. In Noh, the mask (omote) serves as an essential instrument through which the performer transforms into a being not of this world. In the video work(2026), I recorded a performance in which I wore this mask and read aloud my sister's autobiographical fiction concerning her past pain. This was an attempt to objectively understand what my sister's memory had been. Gradually, it comes to feel as though this memory is both mine and that of another person. Though it is certainly my own voice, it brings a mysterious sensation of sounding like my sister's.
