“Falling from Start to Finish” (2018)
I constructed a situation in which a camellia branch grows from the head of a hare, and from that branch, a camellia flower falls. I created this work with images of life and death in mind.
In the process of hammering metal plates, I similarly experience the sensation of drawing close to death that I have personally undergone, and through that, a strong realization of my own life. I projected such images onto this work. The head of a hare is a motif I often see in my nightmares, and I overlay myself onto the fallen camellias. Through hammering metal plates and creating works, I deepen my self-understanding.
